St Julian's is Malta's liveliest seaside town — a run of bays and promenades on the island's east coast where the smartest hotels, the best restaurants and almost all of the nightlife gather within a fifteen-minute walk of each other. Spinola Bay, with its bobbing luzzu fishing boats and ring of waterfront tables, sits at the pretty heart of it; St George's Bay holds the big five-stars and the island's only real town beach; and Paceville, just up the hill, is where Malta stays up late. This is the base for travellers who want to step out of the hotel into somewhere buzzing, eat somewhere different every night, and be a short taxi from Valletta and Sliema. It is not the base for a wide sandy beach on the doorstep — that lives in the north — and choosing the right corner of St Julian's matters more here than almost anywhere on the island.
Every St Julian's package we sell carries full ATOL financial protection under licence #11211, and your ATOL Certificate arrives the moment you book — you can read exactly how your ATOL financial protection works before you commit a penny. Every hotel on this page has been hand-picked and inspected in person against our 22-point criteria, which matters in a town this dense: two hotels a hundred metres apart can have wildly different noise, sea access and views, and only walking them tells you which is which.
"St Julian's is the address I get asked about most for Malta, and my honest answer is that it depends entirely on which street you're on," says Thomas Kaplan, our Product Manager and Mediterranean specialist, who has audited hotels across Malta, Greece, Turkey and Morocco through twenty-eight years with TUI, Thomas Cook, Neckermann and Vrijuit. "On my audit visits here I book a standard room, not the show suite, and I ask the same question at every front desk: which rooms hear Paceville on a Friday night? A sea-view over Spinola Bay is one of the loveliest in Malta; a car-park view over a service road, at the same star rating, is not. I'd never list a hotel in this town I hadn't walked through myself, because the gap between the right room and the wrong one is the whole holiday."
