Gloria Hotels Belek: Verde, Golf and Serenity

Three resorts, forty-five holes of championship golf, and thirty years of deciding what an all-inclusive holiday in Turkey could be. Gloria was there before Belek was Belek — when the area was largely undeveloped pine forest and nobody had yet proved that high-end all-inclusive would work in this country. The group's history explains almost everything about how its three properties feel today, so that is where this guide starts.

The family behind it

Nuri Özaltın founded Özaltın Holding and took the group into tourism in the mid-1990s, at a point when Belek was largely undeveloped pine forest and the concept of genuinely high-end all-inclusive hospitality in Turkey was still forming. Gloria Hotels was the vehicle: multiple à la carte restaurants, golf integrated directly into the resort, private beach access, and a standard of food that the family — who came from the restaurant business — treated as non-negotiable.

That last detail will sound familiar if you have read my guide to the Titanic group. It is not a coincidence. The two strongest kitchen operations in Belek both belong to families who came into hotels from restaurants, and in an industry where food is usually the first thing cut, that shared origin explains a great deal.

The other structural fact worth knowing is that the group built and operates everything on its own equity and has never outsourced management. That matters more than it sounds. The consistency across the Gloria campus — food quality, staff culture, physical upkeep — reflects a group accountable to itself rather than to a management contract with a performance clause in it.

How it was built

Read that sequence and the strategy is obvious in hindsight: build the golf first, then build resorts around it, then add the sports infrastructure that keeps the campus busy outside the beach season. Very few Turkish groups have executed a thirty-year plan this coherently.

The three resorts

Gloria Golf Resort

The original property and the one most directly built around the golf. It is the largest of the three and the most conventionally resort-like — full facilities, a broad family offer, and the closest relationship with the courses. If the trip is a golf week with a family attached, this is the default.

Best for: golfers, families, guests who want the fullest facility set on the campus. Maybe not for: couples looking for calm in high season.

Gloria Verde Resort

Opened in 2001 on the Acısu river, and the greenest of the three in feel. It shares access to the golf complex while running at a quieter register than Golf Resort — the river setting does most of that work. It is the middle option in every sense: calmer than Golf, less formal than Serenity.

Best for: couples and families who want the campus without the scale, guests who value setting. Maybe not for: anyone who wants the biggest entertainment programme.

Gloria Serenity Resort

The most refined property in the portfolio, opened 2007 as a deliberately more intimate, adult-oriented complement to the two larger resorts. It is the one I recommend for a milestone trip or an anniversary, and the one where the group's food operation is at its most polished.

Best for: couples, honeymoons, guests who want restraint. Maybe not for: families with young children who need an aqua park and constant activity.

What thirty years of ownership actually changes

Most guests never think about who owns a hotel, and in most cases it does not matter. On this campus it does, and the differences are visible if you know what to look for.

The trees. A group that has held the same land since the mid-1990s has thirty years of planting behind it. The pine on this estate is mature in a way that no property built in the last decade can replicate at any price, and in August the difference between mature canopy and young landscaping is several degrees of shade and a completely different sound.

The staff. Groups operating on management contracts churn people, because the contract turns over and the incentives are short. Owner-operated campuses of this age tend to have long-serving staff, and on the Gloria estate you meet people who have been there for fifteen and twenty years. That continuity is what produces service that feels settled rather than trained.

The maintenance cycle. An owner refurbishes to protect an asset they intend to hold. A management company refurbishes to hit a standard within a contract term. The first produces steadier, less dramatic upkeep — fewer showpiece rebuilds and fewer tired years in between.

The food, again. Worth restating because it is the group's defining characteristic. A family that came from restaurants set the catering standard at the outset and has never had a finance director from elsewhere arguing it down. Thirty years later that is still the first thing returning guests mention.

Where the Gloria campus sits in Belek today

Belek has moved on considerably since 1997, and it is fair to ask whether a thirty-year-old campus still competes with the newest arrivals.

On golf, it is not close. Forty-five holes across three layouts is more than any competitor offers, and no newer estate is going to assemble that. For a golf group staying a week or more, this remains the strongest proposition in Turkey.

On rooms and finish, the newer estates lead. Cullinan Belek Hotel, which opened in 2022, has larger standard rooms and a more contemporary product. That is simply what a recent build buys you, and Gloria does not pretend otherwise.

On atmosphere, it depends which door you use. Serenity competes directly with Kaya Palazzo Golf Resort for the calm, refined end of the Belek market and holds its own comfortably. Golf Resort competes with the big family estates and is a fair fight. Verde occupies a quieter niche that few properties in the area contest at all.

Which one should you book?

The golf, in detail

Forty-five holes across three layouts: the Old Course from 1997, the 9-hole Verde Course from 2001, and the New Course from 2005. It remains the largest golf complex in Turkey and it is the reason a substantial share of British golf groups book onto this campus rather than anywhere else in Belek.

What the scale actually buys you is variety across a week. Playing the same 18 holes four times is a different holiday from rotating three layouts, and for a group staying seven or ten nights that difference is the whole argument for the Gloria campus over a single-course resort.

The sports arena

The 105,000 square metre Gloria Sports Arena, added in 2015, is one of the largest hotel-attached sports facilities in Turkey and takes professional athletes and teams as well as hotel guests. For most holidaymakers it is simply an unusually good gym and tennis operation. For anyone travelling for training, or a family with a serious junior athlete, it is a genuine differentiator that no other Belek resort matches.
