Lara's character comes from its scale and its setting. The beach is genuinely vast — wide enough that even in high summer it never feels truly cramped — and behind it runs a clifftop park and a promenade lined with cafés, ice-cream stalls and the famous Lower Düden Waterfalls, where the river tumbles straight off the cliff into the sea. The resorts themselves are part of the spectacle: this is the home of Turkey's themed megahotels, and even if you are not staying in one, an evening stroll past the “palaces” and the “ship” is an attraction in itself.

What sets Lara apart from the quieter strips further east is the city. Lara beach & seafront

The beach is Lara's defining feature. It is a long, broad sweep of golden sand — unusual on a coast where shingle is common — that shelves gently into the clear, west-facing waters of the Gulf of Antalya. Much of the strip flies the Blue Flag, sunbeds and parasols run the length of the shore, and water-sports operators offer jet-skis, banana boats and parascending through the season. Each beachfront resort runs its own private beach club with loungers, towels and bar service, so your day can move seamlessly from pool to sand without ever leaving the grounds. Because the bay faces west, the sunsets are a real event — locals and holidaymakers alike gather on the clifftop promenade above the beach to watch the light fade over the water before dinner. Things to do around Lara

You will never be short of something to do. The Lower Düden Waterfalls, where the river drops straight off the cliff into the sea, are right on the Lara promenade and a favourite boat-tour photo stop. Lara's season runs from spring to autumn, and the sea takes a while to catch up with the air — here is how the months actually feel, and when our specialist would book.

If you can pick your week freely, late May, June and September give you the best balance of warm water, comfortable heat and sensible prices. The practical parts

Getting there

You fly into Antalya Airport (AYT), the gateway for the whole eastern coast, and the transfer to Lara is one of the shortest on the Riviera — roughly 20 minutes by road. Many UK airports run direct services to Antalya right through the summer, and every GoToBeach Turkey package includes your flights and your airport-to-hotel transfer at both ends.

Passports & entry

British passport holders currently don't need a visa for short tourist stays in Türkiye (up to 90 days in any 180). Your passport must meet Türkiye's validity rules — at the time of writing, valid for at least 150 days from arrival, with a blank page for the stamp. Entry rules can change at short notice, so always recheck the official guidance close to departure.

Money

The currency is the Turkish lira. Cards work fine inside the resorts and at most larger venues, but it's worth carrying some cash for markets, taxis and small cafés in town. Tipping is customary and appreciated — a little for housekeeping, waiters and your driver goes a long way and is part of the local rhythm.

Health & insurance

A UK GHIC is not valid in Türkiye, so comprehensive travel insurance with proper medical cover is essential — we'd never send anyone without it. Getting around

The resorts are self-contained, so you can happily spend the week without transport. When you fancy a change, taxis and the dolmuş (shared minibus) run into Antalya in minutes, and the city tram links the old town. Hire a car only if you plan to chase the inland ruins under your own steam — otherwise you simply won't need one.

Food & eating out

At the hotels you'll eat well from generous all-inclusive buffets plus à la carte restaurants.
